Our Music Ministry
It has been an interesting beginning to 2018! We have been moving in new directions after the departure of the John Darst Trio, who served our congregation for many years. Mary Kay Croft recently joined the music team with her guitar and beautiful voice. Now that is Spirit at work! Mary Kay is a wonderful guitarist as well as an excellent singer/songwriter. I feel as if we are in very capable hands, and Mary Kay has said she feels as if she has come home. We are still looking for other musicians and possibly singers to round out our Sunday service group, so be on the look out.
Rev. Sheryl and I met and defined a Vision for the Music Ministry. It will be our touchstone as we evolve. It is as follows:
Vision for Music Ministry
“The vision of the Music Ministry is a team of individuals sharing their unique gifts in a spirit of service and inclusiveness. The music shall support the vision of Unity of the White Mountains in transforming together. The Music Ministry and Rev. Sheryl work in conjunction to create a sacred space for an experience of God”.
I’d like to point out the words “service” and “inclusiveness”. Those who participate in our music ministry are expected to give of their gifts for little or no money. Sacred service is a gift of the heart, a privilege that blesses the giver as much as the receiver. Music Team members should also be members or regular attendees of Unity. We are in the process of moving towards using more and more New Thought music, and it would be important that we believe what we sing to preserve an atmosphere of authenticity. As for inclusiveness, it is important to remember that our team members are unique individuals with unique talents and ways of expressing those talents. The Music Director is responsible for managing the appearance and behavior of team members while they are on the stage. Every moment that we are on that stage is a reflection of Unity of the White Mountains and our congregation. If you have any questions or comments, please direct them me, or Rev. Sheryl.
I am excited about the future of our Music Ministry. We will be debuting the Luna Tunes Café in June, 2018. The café is an open mic/coffee house experience that will take place from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on the night of the full moon. It is open to everyone who would like to showcase their talent, and is not limited to music. Drama, poetry, comedy, and dance are just a few of the other possibilities. This is a community outreach event and we especially encourage new, young talent. I would be an ideal platform for a first performance. Click here for more information.
Our choir is now a series of ensembles that will allow singers to sign up per song rather than a long-term commitment.
We will be conductung Vocie Classes occassionally. The first is Saturday, June 9th from 10 AM to 2 PM.
Please consider exploring your gifts as part of the Music Ministry. I dream of growing our own talents into a dynamic, fun and exciting team.
